about the speaker
Natalie Rae is an award-winning director from Vancouver, Canada, based in Los Angeles.
Her debut feature documentary Daughters, the culmination of a 8 year journey, premiered at Sundance earlier this year, where it was awarded both the U.S. Documentary Audience Award and the Festival Favorite Award. The film, described by IndieWire as “a 10-ton wrecking ball in motion”, was acquired by Netflix and continues to win awards and plaudits, with Variety including it in its list of Best Movies of 2024.
Natalie has directed commercial campaigns for clients including Nike, Adidas, and Lululemon, and has been twice nominated for the Young Director Award at the Cannes Lions. She has directed global PSA’s for organizations such as United Nations Women, Global Goals and CALM, as well as working with recording artists Jay Z, Dua Lipa, Drake, Leon Bridges and Anderson .Paak.
Her multi-faceted background in producing, writing, dance and fine arts has informed her dimensional approach to storytelling, balancing large-scale stories with intimate human moments, honest grit and artful imagery to create immersive films that feel distinctly of this time.
Natalie is a DOC NYC class of 2024 “40 Under 40” honoree.
