about the speaker
David Shane spent his very early childhood in his mother’s womb and the rest of it on the southwestern most part of the northeast which sounds more exotic than Long Island. He attended Wheatley High School where he still holds the record for the most consecutive years in Spanish Two (3). He went on to not graduate from Suny Purchase College, but only because he didn’t go to his classes or do any of the work associated with them. He then went to LA where he studied acting and, interestingly, returned to his mother’s womb in a number of sense memory exercises.
His short films are by any measure significantly shorter than long films and have been twice nominated for the audience award at the Tribeca Film Festival. David received his Master’s in dramatic writing at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, where he did manage to attend some classes. He has taken this newfound dutifulness into his life as a director, which may explain why he has been nominated for two DGA awards and has an Emmy and many Cannes Lions to his name. He still cannot speak more than three words of Spanish.

Sharon Horgan, founder of production company Merman, has written, directed and appeared in some of the most important and ground-breaking comedy of the twenty-first century. David Shane (from O Positive) is one of the advertising industry’s greatest comedy directors of all time. Between them, they know how hard it can be to ensure the funniest outcome reaches the screen, and, in what promises to be an illuminating session, they will explain the importance of taking comedy seriously.
