Simon is a composer, sound artist and the co-founder of Field, an emerging music production house based in Cape Town, South Africa.
Simon began his career as the in-house composer for locally celebrated film collective, Fly on the Wall Productions. Countless collaborations with film director Bryan Little, lead to a deep love and appreciation for story telling through sound. After a number of years and adventures, Simon teamed up with Nicolaas Van Reenen to create Field, an audio house dedicated to servicing brands and films. In a relatively short space of time, Field has produced a number of award-winning works and boasts a diverse portfolio of sound to picture solutions. Clients include Toyota, Virgin Active, Adidas, Nedbank and Lufthansa.
Simon’s works feature across a variety of artistic disciples. He has collaborated with industrial designers, architects and visual artists, and has worked with the Handspring Puppet Company, the Baxter Theatre, Urban-Think Tank, Athi-Patra Ruga, Mohau Modisakeng and Cameron Platter. Some of his personal artistic endeavours include sound installation pieces; ‘Entry Point’ and ‘Mother Tone Reflections’ for SMITH’s group show ‘Calibrating Wonder’. Simon was the film score composer for award-winning documentary film ‘The African Cypher’ and produces music under a variety of aliases.
