about the jury
Stockholm-based director Sheila Johansson’s work reflects a rich blend of cultural influences with a strong focus on emotional storytelling. Born in a small village in southwest Sweden, Sheila left home at 15 to attend art schools in fine arts, animation, and graphic design before moving to New York to work as an Art Director.
After a successful career in New York, Sheila transitioned into directing, making history as the first woman to win Best Director/Commercial at both the Roy Awards and The Golden Egg. Now directing internationally with Pine (SWE), BWGTBLD (GER), and Canada (SP/US), her diverse life experiences and Swedish-Philippine heritage gives a unique perspective on her work. A passionate filmmaker, with empathy and intention Sheila boldly captures stories big and small, fusing visual elegance with powerful, emotive storytelling.
In 2019, Sheila took the stage as a speaker at CICLOPE; this year, she returns as one of the executive jurors.
