Ryan Knowles is a VFX Creative Director with over twenty years’ experience spearheading mind-bending, technically complex and creatively demanding visuals. With several awards across VES, D&AD, AICP, British Arrows and Cannes Lions, his eye for craft is matched by his passion for blending technique with technology to explore a myriad of animation styles.
Ryan has collaborated with legendary directorial talent, including Antoine Bardou-Jacquet‘s highly awarded The Heroes for Coca-Cola and Los Pérez‘ iconic Call of the Kings for Riyadh Season. Most recently, he worked alongside Show Yanagisawa on Netflix‘s Discover Your Future, transporting one woman through turbulent interiors, endless skies, storms, and surreal landscapes as she seamlessly inhabits the universes of hit Netflix shows.

Netflix’s Discover Your Future, directed by Show Yanagisawa, brought together multiple iconic worlds, each with its own creative and technical challenges. For the team behind the film, the question was never simply practical or VFX, but what should be real, what should be created digitally — and how the two could work together to make the impossible feel seamless.
Joined by Orlee Tatarka (Wieden+Kennedy), Executive Producer Suzanne Hargrove (PRETTYBIRD), Production Designer Dan Betteridge and Creative Director Ryan Knowles (Electric Theatre Collective) this session unpacks some of the film’s biggest challenges and the decisions behind them.
