about the jury

Neil Smith is a celebrated and multi award-winning film editor and co-founder of the creative powerhouse Work Editorial. Having acted from a young age and then pursuing a degree in Drama from Hull University, gave him an insight into the nuances of performance. Moving to The Whitehouse in London in 2001, already an established and respected editor, his career rapidly took off on both sides of the Atlantic.

Neil also has a career in feature films and has cut some cult blockbusters including Snow White and the Huntsman and Ghost in the Shell both directed by Rupert Sanders with whom he has worked almost exclusively over the past 25 years.

In 2006, along with editors Rich Orrick, Bill Smedley and EP Jane Dilworth, he opened the editor company WORK in London. They had a very simple vision: to found an egalitarian boutique edit house focused on talent and creativity. In 2012, WORK opened in New York and in 2015 he moved to Los Angeles to open WORK’s LA office. Neil and his fellow WORK editors continue to concentrate on craft and doing the best work possible.
