Renowned for his dynamic visual storytelling, Motheo has lensed over 10 feature films, including Thina Sobabili (South Africa’s official selection for the 88th Academy Awards), Catching Feelings directed by Kagiso Lediga, and The Umbrella Men with John Barker, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Moeng served as DOP on the hit drama series Tjovitjo, directed by Vincent Moloi, which earned him the 2018 SAFTA for Best Cinematography. His television work also includes Queen Sono – Africa’s first Netflix Original – The Brave Ones, and most recently, Classified, which is set to screen internationally on Amazon Prime.
In 2025, Motheo’s work on MADU earned an Emmy for Outstanding Arts and Culture Documentary. He also reunited with director Kachi Benson for Mothers of Chibok, co-DP’ing alongside seasoned cinematographer Michael Yelseth. This marks the second time the Pan-African collaborators have worked together to bring urgent African stories to a global audience.
