about the jury

Mbithi Masaya is a director of films, commercials and music videos. His first feature film, Kati Kati, produced by award-winning German director Tom Tykwer, has won several global awards, including the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) prize in the Discovery Programme at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). His latest work, a short film BABA, also had its world premiere at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival. The film was awarded the Baobab Prize for Best Short Film at the Film Africa Film Festival in London. 

Most recently, he served as Content Director for Africa at Girl Effect, where he led the strategy and execution of content and brand development across Kenya, South Africa, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Ethiopia. That work was recognised by both audiences and the larger impact sector with interventions like Wazzii making it to Fast Company’s World Changing Ideas 2025 as the Best World Changing Idea Europe, Middle East and Africa as well as picking up Gold for the Best Use of Digital To Aid a CSR Campaign at the #DigitalImpactAwards hosted by Transform Magazine.
