Born in Rio de Janeiro in 82, Vellas, son of an engineer and a journalist, Vellas is now based in São Paulo, Brazil.
He started working in the creative area of advertising agencies such as DM9DDB and Ogilvy Mather, as an online art director. He worked as a motion designer and became an animation director in 2005. After 3 years, he was bored. He was stuck and wanted to change. Suddenly, MTV invited him to direct the opening titles for VMB and he directed his first live action film. After that, he started to work more and more with cameras and people and less with computers and render machines.
In 2013 he directed his most known film, for Leica. It won several international prizes and he was pointed as one of “Saatchi Saatchi New Director”, in the same year. He has won 6 Lions in Cannes -including one Gold for Cinematography-, 2 D&AD Yellow Pencils, 2 Gold Clios, 5 FIAPS, 5 El Ojo -including a Grand Prix- and many local awards.
He is now represented by Landia in Americas and runs his own company in Brazil, Saigon Films.
