Tony Kaye (born 1952, London) is one of the most influential and controversial artistic advertising directors. He bridges the gap between what is considered art and what is considered advertising.
He is widely accepted as having revolutionised the commercials industry bringing to it a very highly styled photographic approach incorporating stand out characters. He has directed spots for clients such as Guinness, Reebok, Nike,Volvo,VW, Citroen, Gatorade and Dunlop to mention a few. He has won 26 D&AD Silver Pencils, 1 Black Pencil and 5 Cannes Gold Lions.
Tony is also an acclaimed director of films and music videos: he won a Grammy in 2006 for the famous Johnny Cash video “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” with cameo appearances by Bono, Johnny Depp, Kanye West, Patti Smith, Chris Martin, Sharon Stone, Justin Timberlake and Kate Moss among others. His first feature film was American History X (1998).
