Jo is the Founder and Executive Producer of The Otto Empire, a production company she began in 2009 that creates commercials, content, films, music videos, TV, documentaries, live performance and more, both in Australia and New Zealand.

Prior to starting OTTO, Jo studied at Monash University in Melbourne, completing a B.A. in French language and Literature whilst also studying genetics. Somehow this led to a career in the moving image?! Following her studies, Jo travelled to London in 1999, for what was initially intended as a 3-week holiday. 3 weeks turned into 4 years and saw Jo working across various factions of the film industry. During her time in London, Jo dabbled in casting for the first Harry Potter films, production in long format features, before settling into TVC and music video productions working with Tomboy Films, Partizan, @radicalmedia, RSA Films, and Hotspur and Argyle to name a few.

In 2002 Jo moved to New York where she worked as a producer at Hungry Man with Bennett Miller, and was ‘No 4’ in the early days of establishing Droga5. Returning to Australia in 2006, Jo moved to Sydney working as a Producer for Plaza Films. After 10 years away from Melbourne, Jo returned to her hometown in 2008 and opened The Otto Empire in early 2009.

The group now includes Dougal, the content division, and a newly formed VR partnership, PLaTO Reality. Proudly representing both Australian and international directors as well as Station Film and OPositive, Jo and her team at The Otto Empire are constantly evolving to respond to the wonderful changing world we are all a part of.
