GEERT VAN GAALEN
Born in The Netherlands, Geert started his musical career at the age of 12, playing guitar in various bands, performing live in all major music-venues, meanwhile composing and producing original music. He studied Music Technology at the Academy of the Arts, where he developed a wide range of composition- and production-skills in many styles of music and decided to try master all instead of specializing in one, to be able to adapt and always bring a surprising approach to any kind of project.
Working since 1989 as a session musician, recording and mastering engineer, producer, songwriter, composer and sounddesigner in various soundstudios, Geert finally founded his own Studio De Keuken in Amsterdam in 2000, that quickly became first-call studio for music, sounddesign, voicecasting and audio-postproduction in advertising, film, TV, web and games. In 2004 he founded Dangerous Kitchen Music, an in-house Record Label and Music Production Company, servicing many requests for original music from a growing international clientbase.
Geert currently works mainly as composer, sounddesigner and music supervisor / producer for all major advertising-agencies in The Netherlands, while everyday more and more creatives and directors from all over the world are attracted to the often remarkable and award-winning compositions and sounddesign.
Geert’s soundtracks have been awarded ao Gold World Medals at New York Festivals, a Silver Clio, 2x Gold at ProMax/BDA World, reached Finalist status at Cannes Lions for original music and works with his team on many other award-winning projects.
One particularly special and succesful collaboration was on the recent Terre des Hommes – Sweetie – campaign with agency Lemz. This project won all major awards among which the Grand Prix for Good, 13 Gold and 1 Silver Lion in Cannes this year and a Yellow, White and Black Pencil at D&AD.
