Ed’s move into directing followed an impressive career in advertising where he was described as one of the most awarded creatives of his generation. A prolific directing debut through production company Rattling Stick saw Ed make high impact into the world of music video, short film, documentary, art installation and advertising.
His first film MAD LIFELINE, a collaboration with Massive Attack’s Robert Del Naja was selected for exhibit at the hammer Museum in Los Angeles. He has directed all the videos and taken many stills shots for the mesmerizing duo Ibeyi. Their video “river” was MVA nominated and earned Ed a credit on their debut album through XL records. His Knife throwing meets dance promo for We Are Shinings ‘Killing’ was described online as “the best promo of the year 2014”.
His debut ad #PubLooShocker was hit by over 8 million viewers in its first week. Subsequent ads for Adidas, Greenpeace and the Cyber Smile foundation led to Ed being named as one of the future stars of TV production by Jason Stone in The Drum. Ed went on to be shortlisted for Best New Director at the Shots and British Arrows Awards and won first prize in this category at the Creative Circle and the YDA at Cannes.
In 2014 Ed shot and previewed his first documentary about maverick filmmaker Tony Kaye. In the same year, Ed collaborated with Richard Russell and Lee Scratch Perry to create the “I AM PAINT” project, resulting in the creation of a mini documentary, music video and album cover artwork.
