Dougal Wilson is a director well known for his iconic music videos and commercials. A science graduate from Durham University, Dougal began his career as a copywriter at The Leith Agency, Edinburgh, before moving to London to begin directing at Blink. His music videos have been widely celebrated for their playful, charming flair, and he has worked with artists including Coldplay, Goldfrapp, The Streets, Bat For Lashes, Basement Jaxx, Dizzee Rascal, and Jarvis Cocker.
His commercials include Ikea, John Lewis, Three Mobile, Lurpak, Orange, BBC, Olympus, Stella Artois, Amnesty International, Weetabix and Heinz to name a few. Dougal’s first advert for John Lewis, ‘Never Knowingly Undersold’, transcended its commercial purpose to become a widely talked-about part of popular culture. His charming follow-ups for the brand have had great success – his latest, ‘Monty’s Christmas’, won the Grand Prix for Craft at the Cannes Lions.
Dougal’s other awards include Gold and Silver Cannes Lions, Gold and Silver British Arrows, 5 D&AD yellow pencils, 2 MTV video award nominations, and a Grammy nomination. His Lurpak ‘Adventure Awaits’ commercial was awarded Grand Prix at the 2014 Ciclope Craft Awards. Dougal won Best Music Video Director at the British Music Video Awards twice, was rated the top UK commercials director of 2012 in Campaign Magazine, and won the Chairman’s Award at British Arrows 2015.
