about the jury

Darren Gordon initially studied the unlikely combination of a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in economics and law followed by film production. Soon into his legal studies, Darren recognized it was film that ignited his passion and upon completing his B.Com, he enrolled at AFDA and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Honors).

Producing has always been in Darren’s blood, this was clearly showcased when he won Best Producer of the Year, 3 consecutive years in a row. As part of his honors project, he produced the ground breaking feature film, Soldiers of the Rock, which won numerous global accolades.

Darren has over 20 years’ experience in the industry, during which he has produced some of the countries most loved and awarded commercials.

Driven by a vision to create original and occasionally controversial work, Darren has remained unyielding to his principles of producing meaningful content in all projects he undertakes.

This has seen him being nominated on various local and international award judging panels, including CICLOPE Berlin, CICLOPE Africa, AICP, Ad Forums PHNX and The Loerie Awards.

Darren was recently elected as an Exco member of the CPASA (Commercial Producers Association of SA).

Darren is a walking talking encyclopedia of movies and music, and together with his production prowess is a formidable filmmaker.
